NCI Agency award ThalesRaytheonSystems to develop Mode 5 capability for ACCS Product.

“On the 7th of August 2017, TRS AMDC2 and the NATO Agency of information and communication (NCIA) signed a contract for the development and integration of a Mode-5 Friend or Foe Identification system (IFF) as a part of the ACCS program for the amount of 16 million euros.

The main aim of this contract is to develop a system that allows the ACCS operators to improve Situational Control and advance towards the Identification of Targets with equipped Mode-5 IFF Sensors within the Structure of NATO Command.

Mode-5 is a new cooperative mode of military Identification that was developed to provide improved security, an data system interchange and features associated with the Modes 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the current identification system. The first phase of the Mode-5 IFF system that is running from 2017 until 2019, has for an objective to define the complete architecture of this system, in particular with regards to the interface equipped with Mode-5 radars (STANAG 5535 Ed.2) which will then proceed to the partial implementation of various features. The second phase of the Mode-5 IFF system aims to implement all the features that can be contractualized once the studies of definition have been announced from phase 1, the running period has been set to take place between 2018 and 2021.”
